Talk to any car enthusiast worth their salt and they will probably echo the sentiment that there are few things in life that are better than the combination of a brilliant car and open, scenic routes. Unfortunately, for the many supercar owners in Malaysia, our highways are not exactly scenic, while the trunk roads are filled with so many potholes and heavy-duty lorries that driving through them is more frustrating than relaxing.
For all of you nodding your heads at the aforementioned statement, The Run To was created specifically to address this need. Every year, The Run To organises a rally where you get to drive your favourite supercar from an amazing starting point (this year, it was in Bordeaux, while the previous year was the Gritti Palace in Venice) through the most scenic roads that Europe has to offer before finally reaching Monaco, just in time for the Monaco Grand Prix.
Before you cast this off as just another drive through Europe, the founders of The Run To, Chris Welch and Christo Thompson, say: “We love the challenge of impressing people who aren’t easily impressed.†With partners like the avant-garde watch manufacture, Roger Dubuis, for the trip, you can imagine that this five-day excursion through Europe consists of the best that money can buy and some that even money can’t. And, at the end of it all, you’ll get to watch the madness at Monaco on a luxury yacht that overlooks the track.
The next The Run To trip will take place in May 2018, where they will organise everything from accommodation to food and parties, including transporting your car to the startline and bringing it back for you at the end of the journey. The whole thing costs around USD50,000 to USD60,000, and is usually sold out months in advance.
If Formula 1 isn’t quite your thing, The Run To also organises a drive to the Palio horserace in Siena, Italy, where you can expect the same five-star treatment throughout, with just a very different race to end the marvellous journey.
