As we begin to settle into a new normal and the world of travel starts to quietly resume, the Belmond group of hotels, trains, boats, safaris and restaurants opens with its commitment to provide as much planning flexibility as possible. We explore the hallmark of a luxury train in our neck of the woods, bearing the iconic insignia of the Eastern & Oriental Express.
Step aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express and be transported to a colonial-era filled with old-world charm and memories of days gone by. The atmosphere oozes elegance and glamour of the 1920s-1930s era where black-and-white movies come to life in glorious colour. This luxury train welcomes guests in unrivalled style, as it moves slowly through Southeast Asia on a timeless adventure.
Comprising of a Saloon Car, 3 Dining Cars, a Piano Bar and an Observation Car all decked out in polished wood panel corridors and classic silken furnishings, the contrasting opulent colours of Cream, Maroon and Green fill the senses as you immerse in the breathless surroundings both on the inside as well as out. Passing through lush jungles, vast paddy fields, tea plantations, temples and ancient villages, you can’t help but take in the exotic surroundings and be transported back in time to a place where history and adventure engulf the senses. Making several stops along the way, your journey will be enriched by a guided cruise along the River Kwai or visits to local villages, hills, museums and temples.
Whilst on the train, be tantalized by sumptuous feasts and elegant dishes crafted to make dining a highlight of your time onboard. Internationally renowned chefs present continental breakfasts followed by delicious courses for lunches and dinners. Take in the spectacular views as you pass by the sleepy coastal villages whilst seated in the Restaurant Car. In the evening, relax and relive your adventures as you toast with signature cocktails that close the day.
The accommodations are nothing short of romantic, where intricate marquetry, fine fabrics and vintage touches make up your private lounge and cabin. Each cabin is fully air-conditioned and is equipped with luxury amenities, 24-hour onboard service and entertainment as well as an en suite shower and water closet. Four cabin types namely the Pullman Single/Pullman, State and Presidential Cabins, provide sufficient options for travel, whether solo or as a couple and guarantee a comfortable abode throughout your journey on board.
Your unforgettable adventure on this luxurious train could begin either in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, and includes two nights’ accommodation, daily continental breakfast, three to four-course meals, with afternoon tea, house wines, spirits and beer throughout. Prices start from USD2796 per passenger.
The Eastern & Oriental Express was the vision of American businessman James B Sherwood who purchased carriages that were then remodelled in Singapore with an elegant colonial esthetic. It made its very first journey from Bangkok to Singapore in 1993, and has been delighting passengers and capturing hearts with magical moments of vintage elegance as they travel across Southeast Asia.
