The Pier, Cathay Pacific’s business class lounge at the Hong Kong International Airport, is no longer just a pit stop for a quick pre-flight bite or email blitz. Launched in partnership with fitness titans Pure Group, the airline has opened The Sanctuary by Pure Yoga, a dedicated space where travellers can relax and practise yoga or meditation before taking off into the skies.
The space spans 700 square feet and is divided into two sections, The Body Sanctuary and The Mind Sanctuary. The Body Sanctuary is focused on yoga practice. Travellers can opt for guided videos led by Pure Yoga teachers aimed at improving one’s circulation and joint mobility while more seasoned yoga practitioners can head to a designated area for self-practice. The space also offers a seated stretching alternative for those who want to partake in stretches while remaining in their chair.
The Mind Sanctuary offers two types of meditation – audio and visual. One can practise audio meditation in any of the four cushioned pods, equipped with noise-cancelling headphones and iPads, guided by narrations from Pure Yoga’s expert teachers. Gazing (or visual) meditation, also known as Trataka, is facilitated by graphics hanging on the walls. One can take a seat on a plush cushion and focus on a single point to still the mind.
Access to The Sanctuary extends to Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon First and Business Class passengers, as well as Diamond, Gold and Silver Marco Polo Club members.
