Alfa Romeo Brings Back The Iconic 33 Stradale

Available in either a fully electric or petrol variant, the 33 Stradale is a futuristic comeback for a classic icon.

33 Stradale

The new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a modern-day revival of the Italian marque’s iconic Stradale which first debuted in 1967, a model famously known as the road-going version of the Tipo 33, the race car often dubbed as the sexiest ever made.

It’s worth taking a look back at the significance of the original 33 Stradale in Alfa Romeo’s history. With only 18 units ever made, it was one of the few road-going vehicles to be built after a racing version, delivering outstanding technical performance and horsepower you’d expect from a car off the race track.

Performance aside, it is the distinctive design of the 33 Stradale that has enthralled enthusiasts for generations.

Designed by the late Franco Scaglione, who was renowned for his mastery of aerodynamics, it is the vehicle’s harmonious proportions and distinctive features such as the butterfly doors and grille that give the sports car a contemporary and stylish appearance.

It’s no surprise Alfa Romeo decided to take inspiration from possibly one of their most iconic models with their recently unveiled supercar.

Paying as much a tribute to Alfa Rome’s history as it does to the future of mobility, the vehicle is available in either a twin-turbo V6 or in a purely electric version. This marks the first ever battery-powered car released by the carmaker who has revealed their commitment to selling only electric vehicles from 2027 onwards.

Staying true to the original Stradale’s curvaceous design, the supercar features similar dramatic “Butterfly” doors, a two-seat cabin and the distinctive triangular scudetto grille at the front.

When talking about performance, the petrol version comes with a 620 HP 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine and is said to reach a top speed of 333 km/h and accelerate from 0-62 mph in less than 3 seconds. The electric version is just as quick with a total output of over 750 HP and an estimated range of up to 450 km.

Calling on the expertise of Alfa Romeo’s “Bottega” of talented craftsmen, inside, the interior boasts cutting-edge technology intertwined with plush design. There is a 3D telescopic instrument panel and a retractable multi-media screen.

Considering this is the first custom-built car from Alfa Romeo in over 50 years and bearing in mind that all 33 units of the supercar have sold out, there’s no denying the allure of the 33 Stradale is just as enthralling today as when it was first released all those years ago.

If anything, Alfa Romeo proves that it pays to look back into the archives and play on what they do best.
