03 DESERT STORM
In the sublime spaces of Salone del Mobile 2018, a handwoven tapestry hanging from the walls of Ermenegildo Zegna became the star attraction. Its sand colour and simple zig zag pattern captured the imagination with visions of nomadic tribes trekking across desserts in search of their next stop. Indeed, this was the inspiration for the creation for this brown hemp and leather mignon piece as the Italian luxury house partnered with the acclaimed Altai Gallery, known for its exhibitions of primitive textile art from nomadic cultures. This particular piece is a decorative interpretation of ancient Saharan mats, crafted from camel hide, and its mere presence in a room immediately creates a tantalising sense of adventure.
