Luxury fashion and space exploration may occupy different worlds, but Prada and Axiom Space continue to prove otherwise. The two partners have unveiled the latest advancement in the Prada Lunar Spacesuit, marking another step towards equipping astronauts for future missions beyond Earth.

While many people focus on a spacesuit’s outer shell, the LCVG serves as one of its most important elements. Worn beneath the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), the garment helps regulate body temperature, supports ventilation and improves comfort during extended periods on the lunar surface.
The unveiling marks another milestone in the partnership between the aerospace company and the Italian luxury house. In 2024, Axiom Space and Prada introduced the AxEMU’s outer layer, engineered to withstand extreme temperatures and the challenging terrain of the Moon’s south pole. The collaboration has now shifted its focus to the suit’s inner layer, a component that plays a critical role in astronaut performance and safety despite remaining largely unseen.

Prada contributed its expertise in advanced materials and technical craftsmanship to the project, applying engineered knitting technologies and sophisticated 3D modelling techniques to refine the garment’s design.
These innovations help improve mobility and comfort without compromising cooling performance, resulting in a system capable of supporting astronauts during demanding lunar operations.
Spacewalks place significant physical demands on astronauts, generating substantial amounts of body heat. To manage this, the LCVG circulates cold water through a network of tubes positioned around major muscle groups. The system removes excess heat and transfers it to the suit’s life-support system. Engineers also incorporated a fully redundant cooling circuit, providing backup protection should the primary system encounter a problem.
Beyond temperature regulation, the garment features a dedicated ventilation network that continuously supplies fresh oxygen while removing carbon dioxide. This helps astronauts remain comfortable and focused during missions that can last several hours.
