Regardless if you’re a Formula One fan or not, you’ve most likely seen the meme of Toto Wolff slamming his fists on a table at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The moment not only captures the CEO and principal of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in his natural habitat but also reminds us that emotions run high even away from the racetrack in the high-adrenaline world of Formula One.
IWC has decided to create a watch dedicated to the pressures and demands of the sport with the new Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff x Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team.

Limited to only 100 pieces, the timepiece combines IWC’s SPRIN-g PROTECT® shock absorber system with a technical design inspired by the Mercedes team’s colours. Wolff, who has been spotted wearing a prototype of the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL, was the inspiration that led IWC to craft this timepiece.

Manufactured from bulk metallic glass and coated with the Petronas green Super-LumiNova, the shock absorber spring is designed to withstand the enormous pressures of the sport whether on or off the track.
The watch also features a case and crown made of Ceratanium, a state-of-the-art material that combines the lightness and durability of titanium with a hardness that is similar to ceramic. As for the finer details, you’ll notice there’s a grainy technical structure to the black dial which is stamped into the brass base with a special tool. Triangular black hands with the Super-LumiNova® around the edges, add extra visibility to the dial.
Powered by the IWC-manufactured 32101 calibre with a double pawl automatic winding system and a power reserve of 120 hours, you can view the movement through a tinted sapphire glass case back featuring a print with Wolff’s signature.
