TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12 Brings Motorsport Energy to High Watchmaking

Limited to 50 pieces, powered by the Calibre TH84-00.

Few watches are as closely associated with motorsport as the TAG Heuer Monaco. Introduced in 1969 as the world’s first square, water-resistant automatic chronograph, the Monaco quickly became an icon of avant-garde watchmaking, later cementing its place in popular culture through its association with Steve McQueen and endurance racing.

Now, TAG Heuer has unveiled a new interpretation of the legendary timepiece with the launch of the TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12, a limited-edition creation that made its debut during the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco 2026.

Inspired by the mechanics of high-performance racing engines, the Monaco Speed 12 introduces a striking display unlike anything previously seen in the collection. At the centre of the watch is a system of twelve rotating pistons that circle the dial, each revealing the corresponding hour as the minute hand completes its rotation. The effect mirrors the rhythm and movement of a 12-cylinder engine, transforming the passage of time into a constantly shifting mechanical spectacle.

Motorsport Heritage

The watch is powered by the Calibre TH84-00, an automatic movement developed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. Building on the manufacture’s patented Spin Time technology, the movement reimagines traditional time display through rotating elements that create a dynamic visual experience while showcasing advanced mechanical craftsmanship.

Visually, the Monaco Speed 12 stays true to the bold design language that has defined the collection for decades. Its signature square case is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, while a sapphire crystal bezel and caseback offer unobstructed views of the intricate mechanics within. Four open-worked arches suspend the movement inside the case, adding depth and transparency to the design.

The open-worked dial further reinforces the automotive inspiration, with details reminiscent of high-performance engine components. Vertical grooves evoke engine covers, while the skeletonised minute hand draws cues from dashboard instrumentation. A black rubber strap with textile embossing and red stitching completes the sporty aesthetic.

Beyond its technical innovation, the Monaco Speed 12 also reflects TAG Heuer’s enduring connection to motorsport. As Formula 1’s Official Timekeeper and a long-time presence in racing culture, the Swiss watchmaker continues to translate the precision, speed and engineering excellence of the track into its timepieces.

Limited to just 50 individually numbered pieces, the Monaco Speed 12 offers collectors a distinctive addition to the Monaco lineage. More than a commemorative release, it serves as a contemporary expression of the collection’s pioneering spirit — one that continues to push the boundaries of design and mechanical creativity while remaining firmly rooted in its racing heritage.
