Swiss watchmaker Rado offered an exclusive preview of its 2025 collection at a private showcase in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together guests for an up-close look at the brand’s latest innovations in design and material mastery. Part of the showcase included an up-close look at the DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan.

Rene Furler, Regional Brand Manager for Rado, led the presentation, sharing insights into the brand’s ongoing commitment to pushing creative boundaries — particularly through its pioneering use of materials and focus on ergonomic design. A standout example of this philosophy was the new Anatom.

Taking centre stage, the Anatom is a bold reinterpretation of a Rado classic first launched in 1983. The latest iteration features a refined High-Tech Ceramic bracelet, engineered for exceptional comfort and a seamless fit that adapts to body temperature. With its smoothly tapering links and modern aesthetic, the Anatom remains true to its roots while offering a distinctly contemporary edge.

Designer Element

Rado DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan.

A key highlight of the evening was the DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan, a striking collaborative timepiece that reimagines a Rado icon through the eyes of one of Britain’s most influential industrial designers. This marks the second creative partnership between Rado and Chauhan, following the widely praised Rado True Square x Tej Chauhan.

Chauhan set out to create clear design distinction without compromising the integrity of the original DiaStar — a Rado icon in its own right. In the newest iteration, he succeeded with flair, maintaining strong visual links to the previous collaboration. Signature elements, such as Chauhan’s custom typeface and the playful “party-time index”, make a return, while the new design introduces fresh contrasts in colour and material.

At the heart of this reinterpretation is Rado’s proprietary Ceramos™ material. Although Chauhan initially explored shades of green, he ultimately chose gold, aiming to deliver a fresh, modern twist on a classic hue. One specific request from Rado posed a design challenge: a rubber strap. Traditionally seen as sporty, Chauhan sought to elevate the material with a tactile, premium feel — reshaping its perception entirely.

Innovative Approach

The showcase also featured the elegant Captain Cook Over-Pole, a refined worldtimer housed in a 39mm yellow gold-coloured PVD case, complete with a black high-tech ceramic bezel engraved with global cities. The True Square Skeleton also impressed with its sleek, matt high-tech ceramic finish, showcasing the brand’s technical finesse.

As Rado’s 2025 collection demonstrates, the brand continues to lead the way in redefining modern watchmaking — merging innovation, comfort, and cutting-edge design. Through its careful balance of heritage and innovation, the brand continues to shape the future of watchmaking — one bold iteration at a time.
