BREGUET MARINE ALARME MUSICALE 5547

While we applaud every one of Breguet’s timepieces (who can resist such classically beautiful designs?), we are simply awed by the Marine Alarme Musicale 5547. Part of the iconic watchmaker’s strategy in drawing focus to the Marine collection, this year’s nautical highlight is imbibed with a function rarely found on a classical watch – an alarm. In keeping with its maritime theme, a ship’s bell appears through a window at 12 o’clock when the striking mechanism is triggered. As this is a Breguet timepiece, the alarm sound is pure sophistication, almost echoing the deep timbre of a ship’s bell itself. The power reserve for this striking mechanism is subtly indicated via three rhombuses between nine and 12 o’clock, where a designated arrow points to the full-red shape when fully wound. While the inclusion of the alarm function is arresting enough, the 5547 actually hosts a trio of functions, including a second time zone and date display courtesy of the Calibre 519F/1 self-winding movement. Alongside the alarm sub dial at three o’clock, the time-zone display appears at nine o’clock and the date at six o’clock on a decorated dial. The 40mm nautical timepiece comes in three iterations of white gold with blue dial, rose gold with silvered dial and an inaugural titanium case to the collection that’s fitted with a sunburst slate grey dial.
