Audermars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, a more robust version of the famed Royal Oak and designed to go, well, off shore. Throughout its 25-year lifespan, more than 120 references of the 42mm Royal Oak Offshore have been launched over the years, in a range of materials including
titanium, forged carbon, gold and platinum. This year, however, the brand unveiled a new update to the Royal Oak Offshore design, but not without paying tribute to the very first Offshore watch that started it all in 1993.
This re-edition of that first watch from 1993 is definitely one with immense collector value. Not only do you get a watch that remains faithful to the original – with its stainless steel case, its blue rubber crown and pushpieces, the signature blue dial with Petite Tapisserie pattern and a steel bracelet with AP folding clasp – but you also get a watch that incorporates 25 years of horological upgrades and improvements with the selfwinding 3126/3840 calibre nestled within.
This is the best of both worlds: you get a watch that looks exactly as it did 25 years ago and yet you won’t have to worry about any issues regarding reliability and serviceability for many years to come.
