Montblanc 1858 Geosphere
This year marks the 160th anniversary of the Minerva manufacture and, by extension, represents 160 years of Montblanc watchmaking knowhow. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Montblanc really pulled out all the stops with a brand new manufacture world time complication, powered by the calibre MB 29.25 and developed by the Montblanc engineers in Villeret.
Instead of the usual world time complication, where all the major cities in different timezones are listed on the outer ring of the dial, Montblanc developed a much more imaginative way of telling time. On the dial, you will find the northern and southern hemispheres of the globe split into two and, respectively, rotate anti-clockwise and clockwise as the day wears on. To tell the time in any location on earth, one only has to look for it on the tiny globe – much like an adventurer – and the outer 24-hour ring will indicate the time, and whether it is day or night.
Additionally, as the whole concept of the 1858 collection was to celebrate the spirit of mountain exploration, the peaks of the world’s Seven Summit mountaineering challenge are marked with tiny red dots. The Seven Summits challenge is recognised as the most difficult mountaineering quest worldwide and only 500 athletes have completed the mission to date. For the wearer, these tiny red dots serve as a gentle reminder that adventure awaits.
