IWC Schaffhausen Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Yearsâ€
This was one of the timepieces that may seem deceptively muted on the surface, but one only needs to pick it up, set the time and feel the very tactile clicks as the hours and/or minutes jump to realise there’s more to it than meets the eye. The Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years†pays tribute to the pocketwatch that was made in 1884 by Austrian watchmaker Josef Pallweber for IWC. He designed the watch so that the hours and minutes jumped, and was displayed in large numerals discs without the use of hands.
In order to power these large discs without diminishing the existing power reserve, IWC added a separate barrel to advance the display discs. Thus, the IWC-manufactured 94200 calibre is still able to function with the utmost precision and retain a power reserve of 60 hours.
The dial is made of white lacquer – a design element present in all IWC’s 150-year anniversary pieces – and represents an extremely pure and minimalist design. The case of the pocket watch is 18k rose gold and is elaborately decorated with guilloché work. The IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years†is limited to only 50 pieces, and represents the first new pocket watch from the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer in the 21st century. It is also the first pocket watch from IWC with a digital hours and minutes display since the production of the historical Pallweber pocket watch was discontinued in 1890.
