Known colloquially as the Aéronavale, the French Maritime Force of Naval Aeronautics has become the latest muse for French watch company Bell & Ross. Part of its retroinspired Vintage collection, the new V2 Aéronavale models include a three-hand model (BR V2-92) and a chronograph version (BR V2-94). Presented in a classical combination of gold and navy, which reflects the prestige and elegance of the ceremonial uniform worn by the naval forces, refined features of the new models include a sleeker 41mm case, a screwed down crown and rotating steel bezel.
Capturing the quintessential aesthetics of the old-school pilot’s watch is the BR V2-92. Powered by the BR-CAL 302 automatic movement, this timepiece keeps its simple with goldtoned hands and markers contrasted by a gleaming starbust dial in rich blue with radial brushing. Collectors who prefer more technical timepieces would certainly appreciate the militaristic appeal of the BR V2-94, which displays on its dial small seconds and 30-minute timer counters powered by the Calibre BR-CAL 301. Both models come fitted with a 41mm stainless steel case that can be paired with straps in either iceblue calfskin or satin-polished steel.
