Roberto Cavalli reveals their new store during the Grand Opening at Starhill KL. Nothing is more exciting than a new store opening in KL. Last week Roberto Cavalli launched their new store with an extravagant event. Attended by Kuala Lumpur’s most glamorous guestlist, the star-studded event opened with a fashion show.
The history behind Roberto Cavalli
Roberto Cavalli is a brand that has been making waves in the fashion world since its inception in 1970 in Florence. The brand’s runway debut in 1972 at Palazzo Pitti’s Sala Bianca marked the beginning of a journey towards innovative and avant-garde fashion. The early collections of the brand were known for their use of patchworks, leather, and denim on flared pants, mini dresses, and maxi coats. The feminine, modern, and dynamic attitude of the designs captured the attention of European and American consumers.
In 1994, the Roberto Cavalli brand shifted the fashion landscape with its creative and innovative runway show, which featured sensual and modern gowns. The brand became a point of reference at Milan Fashion Week with its wild animal patterns and prints inspired by wildlife. These distinctive designs, including the Zebra, Leopard, and Tiger motifs, enabled the brand to stand out in the world of international fashion.
New Creative Direction
Fausto Puglisi’s appointment as the new creative director at Roberto Cavalli in 2020 brought a new direction to the brand. The collection Zero, launched in February 2021, is a bold, pop, and unapologetic line that embraces the changes that the world is facing. The collection draws inspiration from the experimental and rebellious spirit of the label’s ’70s beginnings and the red carpet glamour of the 2000s.

The SS 2023 collection takes inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock’s film noir, enriched by Fulco di Verdura’s jewels and glittering touches. The collection is suffused with glitzy whiffs of Hollywood glam from the Age d’or of cinema and a baroque spirit that calls for both excess and reduction. The collection mixes sculptural couture shapes stripped down to the essence, body-conscious femininity, and an unabashed urge for decoration.
Playing with opposites sets the tone for the collection, which features demure dresses and revealing second skins, jupons and short dresses, canvas and moirè, and neutral tones and bursts of cosmetic, powdery colours. Tops bloom in sculpted flounces and peplums, while black cuts graphic lines, and giddy bagatelle scenes are printed all overcoats and skirts.
Roberto Cavalli has been known for their avant-garde fashion and distinctive designs that have captured the attention of fashion enthusiasts worldwide. With the new creative director, Fausto Puglisi, the brand is set to embrace change and innovation while retaining its signature style.
