New Depths, New Design: OMEGA Launches The 4th-Gen Planet Ocean

Seven new Master Chronometer models. One powerful evolution.

Twenty years after OMEGA debuted the first Planet Ocean, the brand has completely reimagined its emblematic diving collection. The fourth generation marks a striking evolution. It introduces sharper architecture, slimmer profiles, and advanced engineering. Yet the unmistakable Planet Ocean spirit remains — bold, technical, and deeply tied to OMEGA’s ocean legacy.

A Legacy Forged Underwater

Planet Ocean

Seamaster 300

The Planet Ocean has always sat at the frontier of OMEGA’s diving history. Its roots stretch back to 2005, when the first model appeared as a tribute to the Seamaster 300 watches of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Those early pieces gave the Planet Ocean its core DNA — black dials, strong Arabic numerals, arrowhead hands, and a purposeful diving bezel.

But OMEGA’s diving story began long before 2005. The journey started in 1932 with the Marine, the world’s first watch for civilian divers. Over the decades, the brand introduced milestones such as the Seamaster 300, the Seamaster 1000, the PloProf, and the now-iconic Seamaster Diver 300M. Each model strengthened OMEGA’s reputation as a master of underwater watchcraft, trusted by explorers, pioneers, and scientists around the world.

Two Decades of Breakthroughs

The Planet Ocean quickly distinguished itself through innovation. Its original 600-metre water-resistance doubled the capability of the Seamaster Diver 300M. In 2009, OMEGA introduced Liquidmetal to the bezel, adding beauty and scratch-resistance in a single stroke of material science.

The second generation arrived in 2011 with ceramic bezels, glossy dials, sapphire casebacks, and the Calibre 8500 fitted with a Silicon Si14 balance spring for improved magnetic resistance. In 2014, OMEGA achieved a landmark in high-tech colour, creating the world’s first true orange ceramic bezel — a breakthrough that had eluded the industry for years.

By 2016, the third generation shifted the entire collection into the Master Chronometer era. New sizes and slimmer cases appeared, as well as the first use of 18K Sedna™ Gold and a novel ceramic-and-rubber bezel ring. That same year, the Deep Black models pushed ceramic engineering to new depths.

In 2019, OMEGA reached the deepest point on Earth. The watch used for that mission became the publicly available Ultra Deep collection in 2022, boasting 6,000-metre resistance and ISO 6425 certification, as well as the debut of O-MEGASTEEL.

A New Era: Sharper Lines, Slimmer Silhouettes

Planet Ocean

The fourth-generation Planet Ocean introduces a fresh design language. The case now features two main components — a sculpted body and an inner titanium ring — producing sharper edges and modern tension. The helium escape valve, long a signature, has been retired for a cleaner silhouette.

The watches maintain the original 42 mm size but achieve impressive refinement. Thickness drops from 16.1 mm to just 13.79 mm. A flat sapphire crystal contributes to the slim profile, while the titanium caseback reduces weight and increases strength. It also carries a waved edge, engraved details, and the iconic OMEGA Seahorse.

Integrated Bracelets and a New Dial Expression

With the redesigned case comes a new bracelet. It now fits seamlessly into the case structure, with flat links and a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. Comfort improves with slimmer proportions and a six-position micro-adjustment, complete with diver extension. Rubber straps with foldover clasps offer alternative styling.

Each dial is matte black. Arrowhead hands and bold indexes remain, now filled with Super-LumiNova for clarity underwater. A subtle update appears in the Arabic numerals. They are open-worked and squarer in shape — a nod to the original 2005 design and the sharper geometry of the new case.

Orange Returns — Sharper and Brighter

The colour orange has been part of the Planet Ocean’s identity since its debut. Achieving a perfect orange ceramic remains one of watchmaking’s biggest challenges. This year, OMEGA reveals a new vivid shade across several models, achieved through intensive refinement of the ceramic process.

Seven New Master Chronometer Models

The fourth-generation Planet Ocean arrives with seven new Master Chronometer models, each designed around a distinct colour expression. Three models celebrate the collection’s signature orange identity, featuring matte orange varnished numerals on a black dial and a vivid orange ceramic bezel ring filled with a white hybrid ceramic diving scale. These versions come with a stainless steel bracelet, a black rubber strap, or an orange rubber strap.

Two watches appear in deep blue, with white varnished numerals and a blue ceramic bezel ring filled with a crisp white enamel diving scale, paired with either a stainless steel bracelet or a black rubber strap. The final two models deliver a sleek monochrome option in black, distinguished by rhodium-plated Arabic numerals and a black ceramic bezel ring filled with white enamel, and available on a stainless steel bracelet or a black rubber strap.

All seven watches are driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912, a self-winding movement with a 60-hour power reserve and the highest certified standards of precision, performance, and magnetic resistance approved by METAS.

Planet Ocean, Reinvented

Planet Ocean

The fourth-generation Planet Ocean is not just a redesign. It is a culmination of eighty years of diving expertise and twenty years of Planet Ocean evolution. Sharper. Lighter. Slimmer. More technical. More expressive. OMEGA has shaped a new era for its most modern diving icon — one that honours the past while diving boldly into the future.
