Swiss watchmaking brand Hublot has a longstanding relationship with the sporting world, and especially in the sport of football. As the official timekeepers of the FIFA World Cup (the 2018 edition marked Hublot’s third time participating in the World Cup) and with footballing legends Pelé, Diego Maradona and Jose Mourinho gracing their list of ambassadors, Hublot is no stranger to fans of the beautiful game.
The newest sporting icon to join the watchmaker is the French footballer Kylian Mbappé, who took home the Best Young Player award of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and is hailed as one of the best football players in the world. Mbappe joined Hublot as brand ambassador late 2018 and now the maison has brought together the two FIFA World Cup legends for their first meeting.
Pelé flew across the Atlantic to meet Mbappé in Paris and welcome him to the Hublot family. Even with 60 years between their respective World Cup victories, these two icons share remarkable similarities, with Mbappé being the youngest player to score in a World Cup final at the age of 19, second only to Pelé who was 17 when he scored and won the trophy in the 1958 World Cup finals. A big source of inspiration to each other, bringing these two footballing icons together for the first time was a remarkable occasion, not just for Hublot but for footballing history.
To mark the occasion, the sporting legends presented their respective special edition Hublot watches to each other, with Pelé giving Mbappé the Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Pelé Special Piece while in return Mbappé presented the Big Bang Unico Titanium timepiece that features the French flag on the strap. Both special piece includes their Pelé and KM logo on their respective case backs as well as the date and place to commemorate the meeting.
