There are many similarities between the world of Formula One and haute horlogerie. For one, both are driven by a quest to achieve peak performance, whether it’s through technological innovation or by drawing on their strategic expertise.
For the world of horlogerie, these characteristics are manifested in the creation of a timepiece that highlights excellent engineering expertise such as the Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1® Edition by Girard-Perregaux. Continuing on the Swiss manufacturer’s motorsport theme for this year’s Formula One’s 75th anniversary, the limited-edition timepiece features a stunning Aston Martin Racing Green dial and the house’s high-performance in-house manufacture movement.
Housed in a 44mm case made of lightweight Grade 5 titanium, the corrosion-resistant and non-magnetic material is often used in British motor racing. The sandblasted titanium gives off a subtle texture.
Drawing on the automotive theme, the Aston Martin hour and minute hands are partially open-worked and were inspired by the front grille usually featured on the marque’s road cars, such as the iconic DB12.
Luminescent material adds to the readability of the dial in dimmed light conditions with each hour denoted with an applied index, also incorporating luminescent treatment. A distinctive feature is the centre seconds hand and date display which are executed in contrasting lime green, a hue that graces the Aston Martin Formula One car.
The in-house GP03300 calibre was crafted at the company’s production facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a self-winding movement that is optimally shaped for the Laureato model. It features an oscillating weight adorned with a circular Côtes de Genève motif.
Equally noteworthy details include straight Côtes de Genève on the bridges, bevelling, mirror-polished screws, circular graining on the main plate and engraved gilded text.
