This year has most definitely been an incredibly exciting one for Hublot. For one, the brand offers a brand new case design, the Techframe, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Ferrari. Also, this is the year they fully industrialised the process of working with sapphire cases thus being able to offer new Big Bang Unico Sapphire watches in two different colours; and in quantities larger than any other manufacturer working with said material.
Last but certainly not least, the biggest announcement to come out of Hublot demonstrates the brand’s commitment to their philosophy of the “Art of Fusion†by unveiling a watch that combines their newfound knowledge in working with sapphire along with a haute horlogerie, bi-axial tourbillon complication – The Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis. A watch which we have decided is worthy of the 2017 edition of our The Peak Selections: Timepieces.
The watch comes as the latest addition to their ‘MP’ or Manufacture Pieces collection which follows insane looking watches including the MP-05 LaFerrari with a 50-day power reserve, the MP-07 which was designed to look like an engine block. According to the CEO, Ricardo Guadalupe “With our Manufacture Pieces, we are taking the expression of our watchmaking savoir-faire very far and making the most of it to give each watch a specific aesthetic.â€
And so, true to their words the new MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis is a watch that looks like nothing else in the Hublot line up. The first thing you’ll notice is the massive bi-axial tourbillon that was purposefully designed to be extremely visible within the case of the watch. To achieve this, Hublot worked to create a crystal that is composed of a three-sided sapphire letting the wearer be totally immersed in the mechanical theatrics of the tourbillon.
Built into the HUB9009.H1.RA manually wound movement, the tourbillon rotates on two axes where it completes a full rotation in 60 seconds on the first axis and 30 seconds on the second. Although this dramatic complication may be the star of the show, the movement offers other innovations too, namely the date corrector which can be set forwards or backwards via a simple winding of a lever. The movement also has a power reserve of 5-days and has been made entirely within the manufacture.
The Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis will be available in the brand’s signature King Gold (limited to 20 pieces) or with a titanium case (limited to 50 pieces) and there’s also an option which is encrusted with diamonds.
