25. Yttrium aluminium garnet
A crystal that belongs to the garnet group while being made from a synthetic crystalline material, yttrium aluminium garnet is a unique stone that does not follow the typical aesthetic functions of its garnet stone relations. When doped with an appropriate ion, the stone is used as a host for solid-state lasers. If the element cerium were to get doped with yttrium aluminium garnet, the product could then be used as phosphor in white light-emitting diodes and cathode ray tubes as well as a scintillator.
