20. Thermal Conductance
Analysing and identifying gemstones is an arduous task as the methods used have to be nondestructive to the stones. It is this reason that using thermal properties to measure these precious stones are one of the more widely used methods. Thermal conductivity, one of the specific heat methods, is an instrument that exudes a ratio of the flow of heat through the thickness of a gemstone, which then measures the temperature difference across the stone. This instrument is mostly used to distinguish diamonds from other materials, as diamonds tend to host a higher thermal conductivity.
