18. Riviera
With the choker stepping back onto the haute joaillerie scene, it would only be appropriate to bring back the mid 18th-century classic version that began the trends of chokers, the riviera. Comprising of gemstones of the same species in the same size, shape and similar level of smoothness, the riviera is a choker-type necklace that sits a lot closer to the neck that most necklaces would back in the day. Early designs of the riviera showed the necklace bound together by ribbons or cords, while contemporary remakes of this classic necklace use clasps or are just linked together.
