12. Lost Wax Method
A method of jewellery-making that dates back to the third millennia BC with only a few minor alterations made along the way, the lost wax method has defiantly stood the test of time even as more modern and updated jewellerymaking methods enter the fray. This process of casting involves molten metal being poured into a mould made of wax. Once the mould has set, the wax model melts away, hence the term “lost wax”. It is also possible to create a hollow core with this method in jewellery – one simply uses a heatproof core that would prevent the molten metal from completely filling up the mould.
