(Video) Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar Becomes First Champagne To Journey Into Space

A celestial cuvée that celebrates the timeless ritual of champagne.

In a feat that elegantly blends heritage with futurism, Maison Mumm has etched its name in the annals of space history. Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, the first champagne designed specifically for zero gravity, has triumphantly returned to Earth following its debut voyage aboard the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4).

Launched from Florida on 25 June 2025 and touching down on 15 July, the pioneering cuvée emerged in impeccable condition—cradled within its bespoke, aerospace-engineered vessel. This milestone represents the culmination of nine years of tireless innovation and partnership with a cadre of experts including French space agency CNES, astronaut Jean-François Clervoy, and design visionary Octave de Gaulle of SPADE.

Out Of This World

Not merely a technical marvel, Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar is an audacious expression of the House’s founding spirit: exploration and excellence. From the icy frontier of Antarctica with Commandant Charcot in 1904 to the cosmos in 2025, Mumm continues to defy boundaries—now taking the ritual of champagne into orbit.

The champagne’s avant-garde half-bottle, forged from stainless steel and aeronautical-grade aluminium, is housed within a sleek outer casing emblazoned with the House’s iconic red sash. Every element was meticulously crafted to withstand the rigours of space, while also enabling the elegant service of champagne in weightlessness.

But the innovation extended beyond aesthetics. Maison Mumm’s Cellar Master, Yann Munier, adjusted the blend to counteract the sensory dulling experienced in space. The result: an amplified expression of Mumm Cordon Rouge’s signature freshness and power, enriched by extended ageing and a liqueur de dosage made from oak-aged wines.

“This mission represents far more than scientific accomplishment,” remarked César Giron, CEO of Maison Mumm. “It embodies champagne’s universal symbolism—conviviality, culture, and art de vivre—now carried into the cosmos.”

With the bottle safely returned, the House will unveil the post-flight tasting in five months’ time. Until then, Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar stands not only as a triumph of engineering and oenology but as a bold invitation to celebrate—whether on Earth or among the stars.

As Sébastien Barde of CNES noted, “It’s a reminder that human rituals—like raising a glass in celebration—must travel with us, even into space.”
