Diageo has unveiled its 2024 Special Releases Single Malt Scotch Whisky collection in Malaysia. Titled the Spirited Xchange Second Edition, the latest instalment continues the theme of creativity and innovation first introduced last year.
As before, the collection invites whisky lovers to explore bold, imaginative expressions crafted with curiosity and flair. Curated by Master Blender Dr Stuart Morrison, this year’s collection showcases eight rare and collectable single malts.
Each expression reimagines traditional whisky-making through experimental cask combinations and unique flavour profiles. “The Special Releases collection is all about exploring the boundaries of what whisky can be,” explains Dr Morrison. “This year, we’ve used diverse maturation techniques to challenge expectations and uncover new layers of complexity and character.”
Creative Expressions
The 2024 collection features standout expressions that exemplify innovation and individuality. Mortlach ‘Midnight Dusk’ is finished in Ramandolo white and Sangiovese red wine casks, offering a fusion of umami richness and ripe fruit. Talisker ‘Tidal Churn’ introduces a pioneering stone-spun method that reveals unexpected sweetness beneath its signature maritime smoke.
The Singleton ‘Autumn Walk’ combines multiple cask types, including Pyrenean and European Oak, resulting in sweet, spicy, and autumnal dry notes. Lagavulin ‘Fireside Tales’ balances its classic smokiness with surprising notes of toffee, vanilla and spice.
One of oldest in the collection, Benrinnes ‘Grand Crescendo’, is a 21-year-old masterpiece matured in a trio of oak casks for remarkable depth. Roseisle ‘Origami Kite 2’, only the distillery’s second-ever release, presents a smooth, creamy character that highlights Roseisle’s emerging style.
Caol Ila ‘Ambrosial Feast’ surprises with an unpeated, fruit-forward profile, showcasing a lighter side of the Islay favourite. Finally, Oban ‘Coastal Orchard’ is finished in Oloroso-seasoned, freshly charred American Oak barrels, combining coastal freshness with the richness of orchard fruits.
Visually, the collection is brought to life through a creative collaboration with photographers Ben Thouard and Till Janz, whose images transform each whisky’s story into compelling visual narratives. The Spirited Xchange Second Edition is now available in limited quantities exclusively at The Chamber, with a recommended retail price of RM6,999.
