Datuk Mohd Najib Abdul Hamid, Pengarah Urusan and Ketua Kumpulan of Serai Group, shared that Serai House was envisioned as a modern Malaysian dining concept rooted in heritage. The idea draws from the warmth of a Malaysian home, translating familiarity and togetherness into a refined dining expression. This philosophy reflects Serai Group’s long-standing belief that food serves as a point of connection, bringing people together through shared experiences.
Architecture That Frames The Experience
The exterior of Seri Negara reinforces its heritage presence through its white colonial façade, columned structure, and red-tiled roofline. Positioned within the lush surroundings of Perdana Botanical Gardens, the estate has hosted significant historical moments, adding depth to its identity. Inside, natural light filters through mint-toned window frames, softening the interior and creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere.
Wood and marble surfaces define the interior palette, complemented by muted tones and patterned seating that introduce subtle visual contrast. Architectural elements lean towards a contemporary interpretation of heritage, maintaining a connection to the building’s origins without feeling overly nostalgic. The layout remains open yet considered, allowing guests to experience both intimacy and spatial flow within the dining area.

The opening dish draws from Malaysian kerabu traditions, pairing satay with sambal udang in a composition that feels fresh and balanced. Presented on banana leaf, the plating retains a strong cultural reference while maintaining a clean and minimal structure. The flavour profile remains light and herb-driven, allowing acidity and freshness to define the overall character.
The Nasi Kuning Diraja anchors the meal, bringing together sambal udang petai, rendang tulang rusuk, and accompanying elements in one composition. Each component contributes to a layered profile, where richness is balanced through contrast across texture and flavour. The rendang ribs stand out for their tenderness, reflecting the depth and complexity expected of a heritage-driven dish.
Dessert introduces a softer conclusion through custard pandan bersantan, offering a gentle balance of sweetness and coconut richness. Its texture remains smooth and controlled, allowing the meal to conclude on a clean and composed note. This final course reinforces the overall direction of restraint rather than excess.
