Penfolds New French Collection Features A Bordeaux And A Pair Of Champagnes

A bold blend of terroir, tradition, and trailblazing spirit.

Renowned Australian winemaker Penfolds has unveiled its long-awaited French Collection in Malaysia, marking a pivotal chapter in the brand’s evolving global story. Known for its innovation, heritage, and uncompromising quality, Penfolds continues to push boundaries. This time, crafting wines in France, the very birthplace of fine wine.

Red Blend

The launch centres on the 2021 French Winemaking Trial (FWT) 585, a bold red blend made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, sourced from select vineyards across Bordeaux. This is no ordinary French wine as it carries the unmistakable Penfolds DNA.

Crafted by Penfolds’ winemakers working in Bordeaux, the FWT 585 reflects the brand’s hallmark of blending precision and passion with a deep respect for local terroir. Chief Winemaker Peter Gago explains, “Many great Penfolds wines were born from experimentation and trial. Our wines made in France pay respect to French terroir, yet one thing remains overly consistent and that is the Penfolds stamp.”

FWT 585 is the third release in the experimental French Winemaking Trial series, following years of meticulous tasting and blending. The result is a wine that not only honours French heritage but pushes it into bold, contemporary territory.

A Sparkling Story

Alongside its French red, Penfolds is also introducing two Non-Vintage Champagnes to the Malaysian market—Rosé NV and Cuvée Brut NV—created in partnership with the esteemed Champagne house Thiénot.

The Penfolds Cuvée Brut NV, first revealed in Paris during the brand’s 180th anniversary celebrations, is crafted from 45% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier, and 20% Chardonnay, showcasing finesse, fruit purity, and elegance. These sparkling wines are a nod to Penfolds’ historic involvement with sparkling wine, dating back to its Minchinbury operations in early 20th-century Australia.

Penfolds French Collection

“Since the beginning of our partnership, we have consistently created blends reflective of both Thiénot and Penfolds wine styles,” says Stanislas Thiénot, Managing Director of Champagne Thiénot. This collaboration is more than a meeting of regions, it’s a meeting of philosophies, uniting modern winemaking with time-honoured craft.

Where to Find It

The Penfolds French Collection is now available at leading retailers in Malaysia. Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or simply seeking something new for your next celebration, Penfolds’ latest releases promise a taste of innovation whilst representing a toast towards its global ambitions.
