This June, Kuala Lumpur’s cocktail scene is set for a high-voltage jolt as W Kuala Lumpur hosts the W REFRESH WEEKEND, a two-day epicurean escape featuring the celebrated COA Hong Kong—currently ranked No. 4 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars.
Taking place on 20 and 21 June 2025, the event will bring together bold flavours, electric energy, and world-class mixology. At the centre of the action is COA, known for its mezcal-forward creations and deep respect for Latin American spirits and culture.
The weekend begins on Friday with an intimate cocktail masterclass led by COA’s Jay Khan, followed by a guest shift at W Kuala Lumpur’s Living Room bar from 8pm, where guests can sample signature drinks specially curated for the evening. On Saturday, Khan returns for a second takeover at WET Deck, paired with Afro-Caribbean BBQ from KL’s own Joloko.
“Guest shifts bring fresh excitement to the bar for both regulars and industry friends. They should be an essential part of each bar’s marketing calendar—strategically planned to introduce something new and invigorating.” – Jay Khan
Speaking to The Peak ahead of the event, Khan gave some insights into his creative philosophy. “I enjoy observing everyday life for inspiration, but I also relish the challenge of working with obscure ingredients,” he says. “My approach shifts with my mood.”

COA’s use of local and seasonal ingredients has become a defining trait. “Yes, we work mostly with what’s in season to get the best out of the ingredients,” Khan explains. “Almost all our drinks on the menu contain an element of local influence.”
Attendees in Kuala Lumpur can expect that ethos to shine through during the guest shifts. “That’s the core of our drink philosophy,” he confirms. While the specific drinks remain under wraps, Khan teased some surprises in store. “We’re still crafting the menu, and I’d love to keep it a surprise—to spark your curiosity and entice you to come and taste it!”

Beyond the cocktails themselves, guest shifts like these have become increasingly vital in the global bar community. “Guest shifts bring fresh excitement to the bar for both regulars and industry friends,” he notes. “They should be an essential part of each bar’s marketing calendar—strategically planned to introduce something new and invigorating.”
But what is Khan’s go-to drink after a long shift behind the bar? “A well-made Piña Colada on a hot day,” he says with a laugh.
From mezcal to music, and from fire-grilled food to expertly mixed drinks, W REFRESH WEEKEND promises to be one of Kuala Lumpur’s standout events this month—offering cocktail lovers a rare chance to sip, savour, and be surprised by one of Asia’s very best.
