Whether you’re craving a simple cheeseburger or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, Kuala Lumpur’s dining scene is bursting with great burger joints. We’ve rounded up the best spots to head to.
Black Tap
Known for their award-winning burgers and over-the-top milkshakes, (or Crazy Shakes as they call them), Black Tap’s first Malaysian outpost in Sunway City is the place to go for mouthwatering gourmet burgers. The atmosphere here is inspired by an upscale version of the old-school burger joints usually found in New York City.
The must-try dish: The three-time People’s Choice Award Winner, the Greg Norman Burger which comes with a 220g wagyu patty, house buttermilk-dill, blue cheese and arugula. Other highlights include ice-cold craft beer on tap and Malaysian-inspired dishes such as the Percik Grilled Chicken Sandwich. The Mezzanine private event space with a dedicated bar area on the second floor makes the perfect event space for an office or birthday bash.
Burger on 16
With a menu that ranges from the traditional to the contemporary, Burger on 16 serves up over 20 varieties of burgers including a variation of homemade sauces and buns. Dishes such as Inferno Beef, Mushroom Swiss, Philadelphia Cheesesteak and Black Bean Burger showcase the range of burgers to suit every taste (and diet).
The side dishes menu looks to classic American comfort food with a selection of onion rings, cowboy fries, hot and spicy buffalo wings and more. It’s no surprise why Burger on 16 is the go-to spot for unfussy comfort food in the city.
KGB
KGB or Killer Gourmet Burgers is possibly Malaysia’s most well-loved local burger franchise. Specialising in handcrafted burgers, the menu here offers everything from classic cheeseburgers to creative creations such as the Magmarr, a burger topped with molten salted egg yolk with mac and cheese. KGB’s fluffy brioche buns are also a customer-favourite, baked fresh daily and crafted by the chefs to perfectly hold the contents of the burger, limiting the chances of the bun slipping off.
Fowl Boys
As the name suggests, Fowl Boys serves up some of the juiciest poultry-based burgers in town. Surefire favourites on their menu include the OG Sandwich and the Sugar Daddy, a burger of honey butter chicken thigh served with tangy coleslaw with gherkins and garlic on a potato bun. The cosy diner-style restaurant has two outlets, one located in Hartamas with another outlet in Subang Jaya SS15.
The Daily Grind
First opened in 2008, The Daily Grind is known to be a stalwart when it comes to gourmet burgers in the city. Drawing on great quality comfort food, the burgers here are made of 100 per cent prime meat and a selection of vegetarian patties. A highlight is the hefty Triple Stack Burger, a sinful treat that comes with three 100g beef patties, layered with cheddar, beef bacon, mushrooms and sauteed onions. Most customers come for the burgers but stay for the drinks. Expect signature milkshakes, draft beers and a very good wine list.
