La Ventana is a coastal resort town located south of La Paz on the eastern side of the Baja California peninsula in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur (BCS). This fall, the small but luxurious hotel, Eidos, will be unveiled in the beautiful La Ventana. As part of Casa Tara Retreat, this circular hotel, conceived by Espacio 18 Arquitectura in Mexico, will be an ideal retreat for your next holiday.

A city rich in the peninsula’s great industrial history, Baja California Sur is widely regarded as a premier venue for kitesurfing and windsurfing during the winter due to the consistently strong winds from November to April. Aside from kitesurfing, the landscape around La Ventana offers an array of activities, such as a place to practice yoga, cycle, visit nearby villages and beaches, or just relax.

Designed as a medium-small scaled guest house, Eidos tells the story of a building constructed in the form of a circle, integrating amenities and rooms for those who live in it. Through landscaping, the hotel emphasises the indolent sound of nature, where the extremes of the desert climate, the sunsets, the clarity of the sea and the colours of the earth inspire the forms of cacti.

It is such a fascinating place in its extreme desert weather, where a refreshing breeze blows gently and the aroma of sea waves wafts along on the rocks. There’s something for everyone as seen on the exterior – a cool, dry climate and semi-desert vegetation, consisting of a swimming pool for relaxing after a sunny day of surfing.

Due to its association with nature, a warm, neutral colour palette of white and ivory limestone creates a natural background for the entrance. Inside, a continental and minimalist dining bar with stools is a great place for a cup of coffee. Elegant and symmetrical, chandeliers on the ceiling complement the earthy colour of the walls, while the wooden-style furnishings are spruced up with green houseplants.

Step into the bedroom and the first thing that catches your eye is the picturesque scenery through the floor-to-ceiling window. Striking every corner of the room, the first rays of dawn suffuses the rustic wooden ceiling, earthen walls and timber flooring with an inviting warmth.

A lamp sits on floor beside the bed, with another hanging from the ceiling just above, illuminating the traditional local wall decor. A brown bean bag and a wooden rocker add to the rustic charm, while a chunky wooden chair and low table call out for a good book and a glass of wine.

A rattan dining table on one side of the circular room opens out into views beyond the large windows, just the setting for a romantic getaway or a quiet night in away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Few retreats so thoroughly embrace its natural surroundings as much as this luxuriously comfortable hotel.
