The Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Performs Star Wars Suite As A Tribute To Frontliners

Despite being separated due to the on-going MCO, the MPYO managed to link up in the virtual realm to play a classic sci-fi favourite.

The amazing talented individuals of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) recently took to Facebook to pay a special tribute to all the hardworking frontliners in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Though they were separated by distance and unable to come together to perform, members of the orchestra still managed to come together virtually over a video conferencing platform to perform the classic space opera’s theme composed by John Williams.

MPYO’s Principal Conductor Naohisa Furusawa appears alone at the start of the video before he is joined by a full orchestra playing the familiar opening notes of the Star Wars Suite. The virtual musical feat saw the inclusion of all the regular instruments you would come to find in an orchestra ranging from violins, cellos, trumpets, flutes to drums.

It certainly was a joy to see the display of talent by the MPYO and its gesture of gratitude to the brave individuals who are unable to stay at home but continue to treat those who are sick, perform essential services and deliver food.

Though the Move Control Order has forced many of us to maintain our distance from one another, it is heartwarming to see a full orchestra is still able to come together to perform such a memorable piece of music.

Indeed, the Force is certainly strong with these youths.
