Avani Book Club Turns Travel Into A Literary Journey

The hospitality brand invites guests to discover destinations through curated reading lists, author events, book swaps and literary experiences across participating hotels.

Travel often begins with a destination. However, the best journeys sometimes begin with a story. Recognising the growing influence of reading communities such as BookTok and Bookstagram, Avani Hotels & Resorts has introduced Avani Book Club, a global initiative that encourages guests to discover destinations through literature, local voices and shared reading experiences.

Rather than treating books as an afterthought, the programme places them at the heart of travel. From curated reading lists and book swaps to author events and themed experiences, Avani invites guests to slow down, immerse themselves in local culture and see each destination through a different lens.

Stories That Bring Destinations To Life

At the centre of Avani Book Club is a carefully curated reading list spanning 30 titles across 15 Avani hotels and resorts in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Ocean. Each selection reflects the history, culture or character of its destination, allowing guests to connect with a place before, during or even after their stay.

The collection ranges from contemporary fiction and literary classics to wellness titles and bestselling travel memoirs. In Bangkok, guests can explore the city’s layered history through Bangkok Wakes to Rain by Pitchaya Sudbanthad. Meanwhile, visitors to Amsterdam can discover The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton, a novel inspired by the city’s rich artistic heritage.

Italy receives its own literary spotlight through You Deserve Good Gelato by Kacie Rose at Avani Rio Novo Venice. This summer, the author will also host a special Avani Book Club event and book signing, giving readers an opportunity to engage beyond the pages.

Reading Beyond The Bookshelves

The initiative extends far beyond a curated reading list. Across participating properties, Avani has developed experiences that encourage guests to read, gather and explore together.

In Thailand, Avani Ratchada Bangkok introduces Sip the Story, pairing books about Thailand with themed coffees, matcha drinks and cocktails. Meanwhile, Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort serves a story-inspired afternoon tea overlooking its dramatic limestone cliffs.

Families can also take part. At Avani+ Koh Lanta Krabi Resort, children follow resident hornbills Gok and Gek through illustrated storybooks and interactive adventures created by a young Thai artist. Elsewhere, Avani Museum Quarter Amsterdam celebrates WorldPride with a Book Swap & Reading Night dedicated to LGBTQ+ stories, while Avani Alonso Martínez Madrid continues to host local book clubs that bring travellers and residents together.

A New Chapter For Slow Travel

As travellers increasingly seek experiences with greater meaning, Avani Book Club offers a thoughtful alternative to fast-paced itineraries. Instead of simply visiting a destination, guests can understand its people, traditions and stories through carefully chosen books and local literary experiences.

Available across participating Avani Hotels & Resorts, the initiative celebrates the simple pleasure of reading while proving that every memorable journey deserves a great story.
