50 Years Of The TAG Heuer Monza: From Ferrari To Forged Carbon

A 500-piece limited edition that connects its racing past with contemporary watchmaking.

Half a century after its creation to celebrate Ferrari’s 1975 Formula 1 World Championship victory, the TAG Heuer Monza returns in a 500-piece limited edition that connects its racing past with contemporary watchmaking.

Some watches are defined as much by the era that created them as by the mechanics inside them. The TAG Heuer Monza is one such timepiece. Introduced in 1976 to celebrate Niki Lauda’s Formula 1 World Championship with Ferrari, the racing chronograph quickly established an identity of its own. Fifty years later, TAG Heuer revisits that legacy with the new Monza Flyback Chronograph.

Unveiled ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the anniversary edition is limited to 500 individually numbered pieces. It retains the distinctive cushion-shaped architecture of the contemporary Monza while introducing forged carbon, a material closely associated with modern motorsport.

From Ferrari To The Monza

The story begins in 1971, when Heuer became Official Timekeeper of Scuderia Ferrari — the first watchmaker to partner with a Formula 1 team. Four years later, Lauda delivered Ferrari its first Drivers’ World Championship since 1964.

To commemorate the achievement, Heuer created the Monza in 1976. Its bold racing aesthetic and close association with the circuit and the sport gave the collection an immediate identity, which has continued to evolve through successive generations.

The 50th-anniversary model draws directly from this history while building on the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph introduced in 2023.

Racing Materials, Contemporary Mechanics

At 42mm, the forged-carbon case gives the watch a distinctly modern character. Lightweight yet highly resistant, the material also produces a marbled texture, meaning each case has its own visual pattern.

The matte black dial echoes the original Monza through its contrasting counters and flashes of red, while white Super-LumiNova®-treated hands maintain legibility. A tachymeter and pulsometer frame the dial, recalling the functional origins of the racing chronograph.

Behind the sapphire caseback sits the COSC-certified manufacture Calibre TH20-12. Its flyback function allows the wearer to reset and restart the chronograph with a single press, eliminating the need to stop, reset and restart the mechanism between consecutive timing intervals.

A perforated black calfskin strap with red stitching completes the motorsport-inspired design.

Limited to 500 pieces, the anniversary Monza is less a reissue than a continuation: a watch that carries the visual language of 1976 into an era defined by lighter materials, advanced mechanics and ever-faster competition.
