Some designs transcend the era in which they were created. The Aston Martin DB5 is one of them. More than six decades after its debut in 1963, the British grand tourer remains a benchmark for understated elegance, engineering and craftsmanship. Breitling’s latest collaboration with Aston Martin pays tribute to that legacy with the Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Aston Martin DB5, offered in three limited editions.
The watch also revisits a memorable moment in popular culture. In Thunderball (1965), Sean Connery’s James Bond wore a Breitling Top Time alongside the now-iconic Aston Martin DB5, creating an enduring pairing of two design classics.

Rather than recreating that moment directly, Breitling instead draws inspiration from the car itself, interpreting its materials, proportions and character through the language of contemporary watchmaking. The result is a chronograph that feels less like branded merchandise and more like a considered study of one of Britain’s most recognisable automobiles.
Echoes Of A Grand Tourer

Much of the watch’s appeal lies in its subtle references to the DB5. The cushion-shaped case and mushroom pushers preserve the Top Time’s distinctive 1960s silhouette, while the rounded square chronograph counters recall the analogue instruments found within the Aston Martin’s dashboard.
Elsewhere, the details become more tactile. A wooden inner bezel nods to the DB5’s timber steering wheel, while the hand-finished gradient leather strap reflects the rich upholstery that became synonymous with classic British grand touring. Together, these elements create a watch that evokes the atmosphere of the car rather than simply reproducing its styling cues.

Breitling offers the collection in three distinct interpretations. A stainless-steel model with a silver dial, limited to 1,022 pieces, most closely reflects the original Top Time aesthetic. A second edition combines stainless steel with a platinum bezel and glossy black dial in a run of 315 pieces, while the most exclusive version is crafted in 18-carat red gold with a dial cut from natural onyx—a first for Breitling—and limited to 250 individually numbered examples.
Built Around The Calibre 01

Powering each edition is Breitling’s in-house Calibre 01, a COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement known for its column-wheel architecture, vertical clutch and 70-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement is fitted with a bespoke rotor engraved with the Aston Martin name, underscoring the collaborative nature of the project without overwhelming the watch’s identity.
The Top Time has always occupied a distinctive place within Breitling’s collection, combining the brand’s chronograph expertise with a more relaxed and expressive design language.

Pairing it with the Aston Martin DB5 feels particularly apt. Both emerged during the optimism of the 1960s, both have outlived changing fashions, and both continue to resonate because their appeal has always rested on proportion, restraint and thoughtful design rather than nostalgia alone.
The Breitling Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Aston Martin DB5 succeeds because it understands that legacy. Rather than recreating the past, it captures the qualities that made the DB5 enduring in the first place, translating them into a contemporary chronograph that feels as relevant today as the grand tourer that inspired it.
