Le Labo Elevates The Art Of Incense With A New Ritual-Inspired Collection

Inspired by Japan’s centuries-old Kōdō tradition, the collection brings handcrafted scents and mindful rituals into the home.

Le Labo Expands Home Fragrance With New Incense Collection

Luxury today is about more than beautiful objects. It is also about creating meaningful experiences at home. The Le Labo incense collection embraces this shift, introducing handcrafted incense inspired by Japan’s centuries-old Kōdō tradition. Designed to encourage moments of calm and reflection, the collection transforms fragrance into an everyday ritual rather than simply a scent for the home.

Known as the “Way of Incense”, Kōdō is a traditional Japanese practice that encourages people to “listen” to fragrance with all their senses. Instead of simply burning incense, the ritual invites moments of stillness and contemplation. It is this philosophy that inspired Le Labo’s latest home fragrance offering.

Every incense stick is handcrafted in Kyoto by a twelfth-generation family-owned workshop using traditional Japanese techniques. The collection reflects Le Labo’s long-standing appreciation for craftsmanship, combining heritage with the brand’s understated approach to modern luxury.

Signature Scents Return In A New Form

The collection introduces three familiar Le Labo fragrances in incense form. Each scent offers a different atmosphere while staying true to its original character.

Santal 26 delivers the smoky, leathery warmth that has become one of the brand’s signature scents. Encens 9 centres on frankincense, balanced with warm amber and clove to create a calming, resinous fragrance. Meanwhile, Ambroxyde 17 combines ambroxide, musks, woods, jasmine petals and moss for a clean yet addictive scent that lingers long after the smoke disappears.

Each box includes 35 incense sticks and a ceramic incense holder. Every stick burns for up to 25 minutes, making it suitable for meditation, reading or simply unwinding at the end of the day. Le Labo also offers a handcrafted concrete incense holder, made in the United States. Over time, the concrete develops a natural patina, giving each piece its own unique character.

A Growing Focus On Home Rituals

The launch reflects a broader movement across the luxury industry. Consumers are placing greater value on products that support wellbeing and create intentional moments throughout the day. Home fragrance has become an important part of that lifestyle, evolving from a decorative touch into a personal ritual.

For Le Labo, incense extends that philosophy naturally. While candles and diffusers remain popular, incense offers a slower and more immersive experience. Watching the smoke rise encourages people to pause, disconnect from daily distractions and become more present.

As Deborah Royer, Global Brand President and Creative Director of Le Labo, explains, the collection honours the centuries-old wisdom of incense. Its slow-burning smoke serves as “a reflection of the self: never fixed, always shifting,” reminding us that even the smallest rituals can create moments of quiet reflection.
