Earlier this year, Volvo Car Malaysia transformed the familiar greeting “Selamat” into a wider conversation about road safety and responsibility. Now, the brand continues that movement with the launch of the Volvo Selamat Calculator. The new interactive experience encourages Malaysians to reflect on what is truly at stake every time they get behind the wheel.
Developed with Mr Money TV, the Volvo Selamat Calculator encourages users to think beyond material value. Instead, it focuses on the emotional and financial impact their absence could leave behind. Rather than relying only on statistics, the experience approaches road safety through a more personal lens. It highlights the importance of family, relationships and everyday life.

The interactive self assessment guides participants through questions involving age, income, career, dependants and lifestyle choices. Based on these responses, users receive a personalised safety risk profile. The tool also estimates the ripple effects their absence may create. These range from financial burdens on loved ones to interrupted futures and unrealised milestones.
Participants are also grouped into one of four life stage profiles. These include the backbone of the family, the co pilot in a partnership, the independent soloist and the climber working towards a better future. More importantly, the experience reminds users that moments of distraction or complacency can create lasting consequences beyond the road itself.
According to Patricia Yaw, Sales & Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, the initiative does not aim to place a monetary value on life. Instead, it encourages Malaysians to appreciate the importance of their presence and the people connected to it.

The latest initiative also strengthens the larger philosophy behind Volvo’s Selamat movement. The campaign aims to transform road safety from a regulatory obligation into a shared culture of responsibility. While the earlier Raya campaign reshaped a festive greeting into a lifesaving reminder, the Volvo Selamat Calculator deepens that conversation further.
Peter Yong, CEO and Co Founder of Mr Money TV, added that financial literacy should also include conversations about wellbeing and safety. He explained that simple actions such as wearing seatbelts, staying patient behind the wheel and driving responsibly remain some of the most valuable choices people can make.
The Volvo Selamat Calculator arrives alongside the Selamat Driving Experience which took place on 16 and 17 May. Together, both initiatives reflect Volvo Car Malaysia’s continued effort to encourage safer driving habits nationwide. More importantly, the campaign transforms the word “Selamat” into something more intentional, a shared hope that every journey ends safely at home.
