It is with a deep sense of pride that Malaysia joins the global chorus celebrating a moment of hope for marine conservation. Recent reports have stirred hearts worldwide with encouraging news — populations of green turtles are showing signs of recovery. Once teetering on the brink of endangerment, these graceful creatures are now gliding toward safer waters, a testament to decades of conservation work and the collective will to protect what is precious.
Perhaps, in the generations to come, our children will have the rare privilege of witnessing these gentle turtles in their natural habitat, nesting along quiet shores and swimming freely through Malaysia’s coastal waters. Their survival story stands as both a triumph and a reminder of how fragile, yet resilient, nature can be when given the chance to heal.
As part of Malaysia’s continued efforts to safeguard its marine heritage, one of the nation’s most enduring business legacies has taken substantial strides to further this mission. Through the Penyu Shell-Ter Project, YTL Cement, under its CSR arm BUILDS, has united art, advocacy, and action. In collaboration with distinguished Malaysian artists and artisans, the initiative reimagines creativity as a force for conservation, hosting a charity auction to raise awareness and funding for the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS) and PULIHARA.
Art in Auction for Conservation
The Penyu Shell-Ter Project brings art, philanthropy, and environmental stewardship together in a powerful initiative that celebrates creativity with purpose. In honour of YTL Group’s 70th anniversary, the project brings to life 70 concrete turtle sculptures, each uniquely transformed by 51 Malaysian artists and public figures. Every piece captures a different artistic vision, but all are united by one shared mission: to protect Malaysia’s endangered sea turtles.
The highlight of the initiative is the charity auction, which is now underway from 15 October to 27 November 2025. Throughout this period, art collectors and conservation advocates alike have the opportunity to bid on these one-of-a-kind sculptures. 100% of auction proceeds will benefit the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS) and PULIHARA, two organisations dedicated to the protection of marine life and coastal ecosystems.
Further amplifying its social impact, YTL Cement, through its CSR arm BUILDS, will donate RM5,000 on behalf of each participating artist to an NGO of their choice, extending the project’s spirit of giving far beyond the realm of environmental conservation.
Endorsed by the National Art Gallery and supported by YTL Hotels as venue sponsor, the Penyu Shell-Ter Project stands as a living testament to how art can serve a greater purpose. As bids continue to rise, so too does the collective hope that creativity and compassion can together shape a sustainable legacy for future generations.
In every sculpture, and in every bid, lies a powerful reminder: when art moves with intention, it not only decorates spaces — it transforms futures.
