Acclaimed actor Ryohei Suzuki has been appointed as the new global brand ambassador for King Seiko. Known for his depth, versatility, and passion across a broad range of artistic endeavours both in Japan and internationally, Suzuki’s refined aesthetic and philosophy towards his craft align closely with the values embodied by King Seiko.
To commemorate the announcement, the Japanese watchmaker unveiled a special video package featuring the actor. In the video, Suzuki wears the newly released King Seiko VANAC SLA083 — a reimagining of a classic design from the 1970s, now infused with modern sophistication and performance. The model is available from July.
Originally launched in 1972, the King Seiko VANAC series gained popularity for its bold colour palettes and angular case design. Over 50 years later, the collection makes a striking return, blending the pioneering spirit of the past with contemporary innovation.

Suzuki, born in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1983, currently stars in the global Netflix hit City Hunter. His performance in the film and other recent works has garnered him several prestigious accolades, including: Best Actor/Actress in a Comedy Role and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 7th Asian Academy Creative Awards 2024 and Rising Star Asia Award at the 2023 New York Asian Film Festival among others.
In an exclusive interview with Seiko, the actor touched on his connection to the King Seiko brand. “What I love about King Seiko is the watches feel really modern, but I can still clearly see the DNA of the vintage King Seiko,” he said. “Because I am a vintage watch fan myself, I actually have two vintage King Seiko from the sixties. So, I have a huge respect for the sense of beauty from that era.”
When asked when he would choose to wear the new King Seiko VANAC, Suzuki noted its versatility: “It would be great for casual wear, and I also think it looks very sophisticated with a suit. It can be a great daily watch, you know, because it’s so accurate and water-resistant.”
“For me, watches are something that express your ‘philosophy’. It’s not just a tool, or just an accessory. A watch like VANAC is perfect to make a statement about your philosophy, your mindset, and your way of living,” said Suzuki.
