Rado Celebrates 40 Years In Tennis With Limited Edition Captain Cook Timepiece

Court-themed design details and serious mechanical credentials.

Rado has unveiled a striking new release to commemorate four decades of partnership with the world of tennis: the Captain Cook x Tennis Limited Edition. With just 1,985 pieces produced globally, this special-edition watch celebrates the Swiss brand’s long-standing relationship with the sport in a timepiece that fuses vintage design, modern engineering, and playful tennis-inspired details.

At its core, the watch remains true to the Captain Cook line, featuring a robust 39mm stainless steel case and a turning bezel that speaks to its sporty DNA. A standout feature is the circular brushed plasma high-tech ceramic bezel insert, surrounding a ruthenium-to-white gradient dial that subtly reflects the changing pace and rhythm of a match. Super-LumiNova indices and bold hands ensure excellent legibility—essential for those quick glances between points.

Game Inspired

Tennis references are cleverly embedded throughout the design. The tip of the second hand and four dial markers are coated in dark yellow Super-LumiNova—a deliberate nod to the vibrant tone of a new tennis ball. These four markers are positioned at 15, 30, and 40 minutes, with one at 12 o’clock representing ‘game’, mirroring tennis’s unique scoring system.

The caseback offers further detail for enthusiasts: an engraving marking its limited-edition status—ONE OUT OF 1985—sits alongside embossed textures symbolising grass, clay, and hard courts, honouring the surfaces Rado has supported at tournaments over the years.

Horology And Sport

Powering the watch is Rado’s calibre R763 automatic movement, delivering an impressive 80-hour power reserve and equipped with an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring—underscoring the brand’s commitment to durability and precision. Water-resistant to 30 bar (300 metres), it’s a watch built for endurance on and off court.

Versatility is further enhanced with Rado’s EasyClip system, allowing wearers to quickly switch between the brushed steel bracelet and three included NATO-style textile straps—colour-coded to court surfaces: green for grass, orange for clay, and blue for hard court. All elements are presented in a stylish leather travel pouch making the Captain Cook x Tennis Limited Edition a truly captivating piece.
