Volvo Car Malaysia Opens The Order Books For The Volvo EX90

The new seven-seater flagship SUV joins the brand’s electrified model range.

Volvo EX90

There are but a handful of seven-seater electric SUVs in the Malaysian market today. But now local drivers can add the new Volvo EX90 to their list of considerations. And for what it packs in, the new flagship SUV from the Swedish marquee makes a compelling case for itself.

Technological Trailblazer

The Volvo EX90 is Volvo’s first fully electric, seven-seater model for global markets. The brand’s top-range SUV, it breaks new ground with a host of modern innovations and safety technologies. At an exclusive media preview recently, selected Malaysian journalists had an opportunity to get up close to Volvo’s flagship SUV.

Armed with core compute architecture and active and passive safety in and outside of the car, it boasts software-driven features to improve its capabilities even further throughout ownership. Luxurious and bold, the Volvo EX90 is also a highly-formidable fully electric car.

With more than 600km of electric range and a 0-100kmh sprint clocked in under five seconds, it offers both pace and distance. Inside, owners get Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio, and true seven-seater comfort with powered folding seats to expand luggage space at a touch of a button.

Its plug-in hybrid counterpart – the new XC90 – is a modern icon with a lineage stemming from the marque’s very first SUV, and its proven practicality has made the XC90 a perennially popular model. The new XC90 is the first major facelift since the current generation’s debut 10 years ago and brings a new look and user interface that positions it closer to its fully electric sibling.

Both the Volvo EX90 and new XC90 are electrified cars, defined by Volvo Cars as models with a charging cable. The offering and adoption of electrified models are important for the company as an integral part of its sustainability ambitions and goal of net zero emissions across global operations by 2040.

First Dibs

Volvo Car Malaysia is accepting bookings for the Volvo EX90 and the new XC90. Malaysia is one of the first Asia Pacific markets to introduce the Volvo EX90 after Thailand’s launch last year. Retail prices for both models are expected to be around the RM450,000 range. Further details of trim level and vehicle specifications to be announced.

The arrival of the Volvo EX90 and XC90 will serve to shore up the brand’s progress towards its global ambitions in the electric segment. “With the imminent introduction of the Volvo EX90 and new XC90 for Malaysia, we are making good progress to achieving 90 to 100 percent electrified car sales before the end of the decade,” states Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

Last year, both BEV and PHEV models made up more than 80 percent of sales for the brand. “The EX90 is a compelling addition to our current BEV portfolio of compact SUVs as it represents an option for owners who require more space, luxury, comfort and technology in a powerful, fully electric package,” adds Wailes.

“The EX90 complements the new, facelifted XC90 as the best of Volvo with our unwavering focus on safety to give you the freedom to move.”

Customers can place bookings on both the EX90 and XC90 on Volvo Car Malaysia’s website starting today.
