Padel, a racket sport born in Mexico, has transcended borders and won the hearts of aficionados all over the world, particularly in Europe.
Originating in the 1960s, it is widely hailed as the fastest-growing sport globally, with 25 million players across 110 countries. No doubt, this sport has drawn a large number of new players since its introduction in Malaysia, thanks to its fast-paced, modern gameplay and emphasis on camaraderie as a doubles sport.
Venturing beyond the roads, Volvo Car Malaysia is hosting the Volvo Padel Open, the country’s inaugural and largest official padel tournament. This exciting event welcomes the participation of both new and experienced players the chance to compete over two weekends.
In collaboration with all Klang Valley padel clubs—ASCARO Padel & Social Club, Padelground, and PadelKu—Volvo Car Malaysia aims to expand the padel community in Malaysia.
Players will compete for glory and prizes totaling up to RM100,000 across four categories: Intermediate, Open, Women’s, and Wildcard. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 8 to June 15, 2024. To participate, players must register as doubles teams, and their skill levels will be assessed upon registration to determine eligibility for each category.
Participation requires a one-time fee of RM200 per team of two players. However, there’s a special rate of only RM100 if at least one player is a Volvo owner. In addition to the opportunity to compete for grand prizes, players will also benefit from complimentary coaching clinics prior to the tournament, receive a sleek Volvo sports kit, enjoy court-side access to the grand finals, and indulge in exclusive Volvo hospitality.
