Already at the centre of the Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur range, the DBX 707 is generating the outright majority of interest for the brand – especially among buyers prepared to pay the supplement for the extra performance and bragging rights that should come with it!
So make no mistake, the DBX707 is a substantially upgraded version of Aston Martin’s first ultra luxury SUV! New 23-inch gloss black diamond-turned wheels sit on each corner of the car’s incredibly robust bonded aluminium structure, wrapped with 285/40 front and 325/35 rear Pirelli P Zero tyres.
Also on is a gloss black exterior package, with roof rails, door mirror caps, window surrounds, front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler finished in gloss black. Soft-close doors welcome passengers into an interior furnished with sumptuous, full-grain leather, sourced from long-term Aston Martin partner Bridge of Weir, continuing a cherished tradition since 1905. This is in wonderful contrast to the 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster and the 10.25-inch infotainment display on the car’s dashboard!
Meanwhile, mechanical changes are few, but very significant when compared with the vanilla DBX. For starters, the 707 gets a mightier version of the AMG-supplied 4.0-litre V8. The key to its performance upgrade is a higher-output ball bearing turbochargers, along with redesigned induction and exhaust systems. It also now drives through AMG’s ‘wet clutch’ nine-speed auto transmission which adds a Race Start launch-control function, delivering the eye-watering 3.3-sec 0-100km/h easily.
But the DBX 707 is not merely a version of its older sibling with a more powerful engine – the entire package of the new car has been improved substantially. Upgrades have been applied to the aerodynamics, braking and suspension – like the fitment of a huge diffuser – while the car’s gear ratios have been shortened and the chassis dynamics returned.
And while the idea of traditional sportscar brands bringing SUVs to market may not still sit well with purists, the reality is that, for ultra-high-net-worth customers, the prestige of supercar ownership is not enough – they want comfort and practicality, too!
