Director of Moonlight Barry Jenkins wears Dior Homme
In a surprise upset reminiscent of the recent Miss Universe debacle, Moonlight has won the Best Picture Oscar after the hot favourite to win, La La Land, was mistakenly announced by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty as the winner. The mistake came as the actors were given an envelope containing a previous category win by La La Land and the two actors were palpably hesitant before Faye Dunaway made the announcement . There was some confusion as La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz returned to the stage to announce that the winner was indeed Moonlight, holding up the card in his hand.
Moonlight is director Barry Jenkins’ sophomore effort. The director expressed his shock backstage after the win–“I’d never seen that happen before. It made a special feeling more special but not in the way I expected.”
