Contemporary art takes centre stage at Madrid in February.
Here’s a good reason to include Madrid on your travel plans next month. In the last week of February, Madrid, one of the world’s greatest cultural capitals, will host the Week of Contemporary Art, during which four international exhibitions on contemporary art will be taking place simultaneously.
Spain’s premier art fair, ARCO, will be held at IFEMA-Feria de Madrid from 22 to 26 February, while ART Madrid celebrates its 12th edition during the same period at the GalerÃa de Cristal of Centro Cibeles. The eighth edition of JustMAD, which is dedicated to emerging art, will take place in the Escuela de Arquitectos de Madrid from 21 to 26 February and the inaugural URVANITY, which concentrates on new contemporary art, will run from 23 to 26 February at the Palacio de Neptuno. URVANITY will also feature a solo show by the anonymous England-based graffiti artist, political activist and film director, Banksy.
While you’re there, don’t forget to make time for Madrid’s excellent art museums, especially the city’s Golden Triangle of Art of the Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina SofÃa museums, all within easy walking distance of each other.
