You don’t need to buy a plane ticket to Paris to enjoy some of the best French classical art the city’s many museums have to offer. Thanks to the efforts of Paris Musées, which oversees 14 of the city’s best museums, over 300,000 works of arts are available to be viewed online.
Within the online portal there is all manner of masterpieces by well-known artists such as Claude Monet, Anthony van Dyck, Léon Bonnat, Rembrandt, Eugène Delacroix as well as Gustave Courbet.
Just like you would find in the real museum, there is currently an online exhibition titled “Light and Shade” that extensively features many of the works of Victor Hugo.
Want to get a closer look at the details of each painting? Many of the images are available for download with high definition (300DPI) image files. Along with the image are details about the selected work as well as a guide for using and citing sources of the image.
Admittedly, not every image in these museums collection are uploaded online but the collection is very interesting as you are able to explore the works of different artists and time periods.
Sadly, if you are looking for works from Paris’ most famous museum, The Lourve you won’t find it in this online database. Nevertheless, that alone will justify a visit to one of the world’s best museums the next time you visit Paris.
