When Montblanc announced the TimeWalker collection last year, modelled after vintage racecars, we were quite gutted that it didn’t make a chronograph with the tri-register positioned in the classic style. This year, the brand has made things right with the new TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph and, yes, as the name suggests, it is powered by a new in-house movement.
Not only does the new chronograph come with a classic tri-register design, it is also built with a “panda” dial. This style of chronograph first made its appearance around the 1960s and 70s, and has since become an icon, appreciated for both its unique aesthetic and great readability. As a nod to Minerva’s heritage and legacy within Montblanc, the red chronograph seconds hand is also inspired by the Minerva arrow.
The movement in question is the MB 25.10 that features traditional finishing techniques such as ‘tes de Genve and circular graining, all visible through the caseback. The chronograph is equipped with a traditional column wheel and horizontal couplings, and has a barrel capable of 46 hours of power reserve.
The good news is, the retail price for this chronograph with an in-house movement is approximately EUR4,990, which is great value. The bad news, however, is that Montblanc only starts delivering the watches to retailers next month.
