The Omega for the man of the world

The Omega for the man of the world

Time and tide.

Just as how the earliest chronometers were used by sailors to navigate the open seas, it only makes sense that the latest collection of Master Chronometer-certified Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watches adds a function that will help its user in the exploration of the world.

Omega adds a world time function to its new collection of seafaring watches in the form of this limited-edition Aqua Terra watch. Exuding a sense of exquisite elegance, the 43mm symetrical case is crafted in platinum-gold, which includes a nice contrast of polished and brushed surfaces. The real beauty of the watch, however, is visible on the dial, which has an outer section in sand-blasted platinum gold with 18K yellow gold indices and hands, while the globe in the centre is painstakingly handcrafted with enamel on a sapphire crystal section.

Of course, being a watch that was made for the high seas, this timepiece is water resistant to 15 bar or 150m. Even on the caseback, a wave-edge design represents a distinct nod to the watch’s sea legs.

Inside, the watch is powered by the calibre 8939 movement that not only offers the world time and date functions but is also Master Chronometer certified by METAS (Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). As a tribute to the facility in which the watch is both crafted and certified, the city of Bienne (the home of Omega) is printed at GMT+1.

CHRONOMETER VS MASTER CHRONOMETER

  • Chronometer certifications are awarded by the COSC; Master Chronometers are certified by METAS.
  • Only the movement is tested for Chronometers; for Master Chronometer certification, the movement is tested with and without the case.
  • Waterproof testing for Master Chronometer is done in real world conditions where the cased movements are actually submerged in water and pressurised.
  • Only the Master Chronometer tests subject the watch to a 15,000 gauss magnetic field to ensure its anti-magnetism.
  • Both certifications ensure the utmost level of precision in the watch’s timekeeping abilities.
