Oris Dives In To Help Save the Oceans With Its Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III Watch

On a mission to save the world’s oceans.

Oris has introduced the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III, the final piece in its trilogy of watches that are tied to saving the world’s oceans. Based off the legendary Oris Aquis, the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III is a high-performance diver’s watch.

The new model is limited to 2,000 pieces and has a notable gradient blue dial and aqua blue ceramic insert in its uni-directional rotating diver’s bezel, which recall the colour of the reef’s waters.

Water resistant up to 300 metres, an Oris 743 automatic movement is housed, with a 38 hour power reserve, within this 43.5mm stainless steel case. The Sapphire top glass boast anti-reflective coating inside while the hands and indices are printed with Super-LumiNova material for better visibility.

Other notable defining features of the watch include a special engraving of corals and the Southern Cross, a star constellation found on the Australian flag and only visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

As the name suggests, the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III is the third watch Oris has linked to the world’s largest and most diverse reef system. It is not just another ‘good cause’ watch.

This year the independent Swiss watch company has partnered with a non-profit social enterprise, the Reef Restoration Foundation to begin a programme that is slated to help regenerate high value areas of the reef that have suffered from coral bleaching (an event caused by rising water temperatures) during recent Australian summers.

‘The world’s oceans are the source of life,’ said Rolf Studer, Oris Joint Executive Officer. ‘But after years of neglect, they are showing the strain. We have to act, before it’s too late. It’s now imperative that we protect and conserve them – our future depends on it.

The Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III is the first watch in The Oceans Project. ‘We’d like to invite our customers to join us as we fight the devastating effects of climate change and pollution on the world’s waters,’ says Claudine Gertiser-Herzog, Oris Joint Executive Officer. ‘Together, we can bring change for the better.’

The latest entry to Oris’ Great Barrier Reef family of Aquis watches will be available starting June 2019 and is expected to retail for CHF 2,450.
