Jaquet Droz’s New Grande Seconde Skelet-One: A Combination Of Tradition And Technology

Jaquet Droz’s brazen artistry is on full display with two new variations of its Grande Seconde Skelet-One timepiece.

Which will you go for? The modern or the classic? That question often plagues a watch enthusiast when choosing a timepiece. Fortunately, Jaquet Droz’s Grande Seconde Skelet-One solves that by being both.

Triumphantly roaring into the 21st century, the two new variations of the timepiece that uniquely honours boldly staked their place as a cornerstone of the watchmaker’s contemporary image. Modern and on-trend, the Grande Seconde Skelet-One takes a step forward while keeping its roots firmly planted in its origins.

The traditional variant of the two features a case draped in red gold, a gold alloy that Jaquet Droz admires for its subtle accents of warm coppery tones. It is worn perfectly on a leather strap with a novel rubber-like finish and supplements the watchmaker’s semi-mat alligator straps.

Within the 41mm case lies Jaquet Droz’s exclusive caliber in which every component is meticulously stripped down to its minimum point of resistance.

The fully suspended gear train is attached to the movement’s skeletonized bridges raised by an open-worked oscillating weight that lets light shine clearly through.

The modern element of Jaquet Droz’s latest timepiece comes in the form of the ceramic plasma, made by transforming white ceramic with gas heated to 20,000°C, giving it a unique metallic glow without adding any metal fragments to the process.

This core modification maintains all the inherent properties of ceramic, thus ensuring that the watch is hard, lightweight and scratch-resistant as high-tech ceramic and it is able to withstand the test of time.

The gray anthracite theme carries over to the new ceramic plasma case held by a sleek and modern gray textile strap.

It’s a creation designed for collectors who simply cannot resist the seductive modernity of a watch whose design hasn’t changed in almost 300 years: the Grande Seconde.
