Second-generation Porsche Panamera, the sporty luxury saloon, arrives in Malaysia.

Sime Darby Auto Performance today introduced the second-generation Porsche Panamera, which reconciles even further the contrasting characteristics of the performance of a genuine sports car and the comfort of a luxury saloon. First introduced in 2009, the new Panamera promises to be an icon in its class, setting new benchmarks in both functionality and design, including redesigned engines and transmissions, an improved chassis, and a futuristic display and control concept. It also merges the worlds of ambitious sports cars and comfortable cruising saloons with highlights such as rear axle steering, active roll compensation and three-chamber air suspension.

The interior has been reinterpreted, with black panel surfaces and interactive displays that combine a clear and intuitive user interface – like that of smartphones and tablets – with the practical requirements for controlling the car. Classic hard keys and conventional instruments have been reduced significantly, replaced by touch-sensitive panels and individually configurable displays that take centre stage in the new Porsche Advanced Cockpit, which transforms the analogue world into the digital present of mobility.

The new Panamera also includes a night vision assistant that uses a thermal imaging camera to detect people and large animals, and displays a colour-highlighted warning indicator in the cockpit. If the optional new LED matrix headlights with 84 image points are selected, people beyond the visual range of the dipped beam headlight are also illuminated briefly if they are in the computed driving corridor, allowing the driver to react even faster. New equipment options include panoramic tilt roof, massage seats, ambient lighting and a 3D high-end sound system from Burmester.

Two variants are currently available: the rear-wheel drive Panamera, powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo engine, and the all-wheel drive Panamera 4S with a 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine. Both engines are linked to an extremely fast eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. The Panamera delivers 330hp between 5,400 and 6,400rpm; the more powerful Panamera 4S develops a maximum power of 440hp between 5,650 and 6,600rpm. Top speeds are 264km/h for the Panamera and 289km/h for the Panamera 4S, while the century sprints are 5.7 seconds and 4.4 seconds, respectively.

Prices for the new Panamera and Panamera 4S start from MYR890,000 and MYR1.1 million, respectively, and come with a four-year warranty and free maintenance package that includes complimentary service, parts and labour.
